Environmentalism: Scriptures

Smart Meters

"It is extremely ironic that the stated intentions of the global 'smart grid' plans are for greater:

  • 'energy efficiency';

  • 'reliability of service';

  • 'to help the environment'.

"In actuality:

  • regions where smart meters have been installed have not experienced less energy consumption (only increased cost to customer);

  • the entire power grid becomes immediately vulnerable to being taken down by hacking;

  • the effects of increased radiation have now been demonstrated to have a negative impact on all plants, insects, animals and biological life in general" [source].

"While local governments and power companies will tell you that the installation of Smart Meters is simply a means to modernise the nation's power grid system and save consumers money, the fact is the Smart Meter program is a tool for enforcement of the world-wide drive for Sustainable Development.  SD is a top-down collectivist approach to government through which the means of production, energy and water use and property management is controlled by the state. It is anti-free enterprise, anti-private property, and anti-individual freedom. The result is higher costs, less goods and services and less individual choice"

"Smart Meters have been a scam from the day they were introduced. The mere evoking of the word 'smart' when the homeowner does not control them at all is part of the trickery"  /  "Smart meters, smart TVs, etc, etc, ... the very word 'smart' is actually just a euphemism for the fact that you will no longer be in control of that device"  /  "Wisdom comes with age and experience - youngsters get entrapped by soundbites!"

Remotely Controlling Energy Supply

"Smart meters are part of the smart grid, one of whose objectives is the controlled shutdown of selected areas when the energy supply fails. It's all being planned"  /  "Smart meters make it possible to set customers' tariffs individually, which is a bad thing IMO. They can also disconnect the electricity without physical access to people's houses. Of course, that's perfectly safe, as long as the electricity company never makes a mistake, or gets hacked, isn't it"  /  "Most people don't realize that electricity supply grids are not static. They involve constant juggling of supply and demand. Weather-dependent sources are like adding another ball to be juggled. So Spy Meters (not smart!) are an attempt to control demand - by rationing"
[comments at source].

"The reason the power companies, and government, are pushing so called smart meters is because it will enable power to be switched off remotely. Power will be priced at different levels, a higher price will ensure a guaranteed supply whilst a lower price will risk disconnections or brown outs. Why else would the power companies be embarking on a scheme to fit smart meters at a cost of 12 billion, and rising, and it's not so we can see cute little displays showing that when you switch on your electric heating it consumes massive amounts of electricity. There is even talk that the fitting of smart meters will be compulsory, backed up by legal enforcement. All this is to ration out our so-called green, expensive and inefficient energy supply" [comment at source].

Surveillance and Privacy Concerns

"[S]mart meters will be able to reveal people's daily schedules, their appliances and electronic equipment, and whether they use certain types of medical equipment. Utilities will have the data to discern the behavior of occupants in their home over a period of time ... The Electronic Privacy Information Center cites a list of potential privacy consequences of Smart Grid Systems including, identity theft, activity censorship, profiling, tracking behavior of renters/leasers, and real-time surveillance. There is also evidence that power companies are selling personal customer information that has been gathered by smart meters to private companies for marketing purposes"

"Smart meters are designed to provide government with detailed information of your energy use, your movements in your home, the way you use your personal private time, and even how many people are in your home at any given time. It is an unconstitutional invasion of your home by government"

"Smart meters are part of the police state and can easily be configured to spy on people ... Anybody who welcomes them is welcoming a Chinese style surveillance state"  /  "Spying yes - it's also state preying on the elderly and vulnerable"  /  "The next generation of smart meters is likely to use the electricity lines to phone home. Most consumers won't understand that a device in their house is communicating with the outside world (and is therefore hackable), via a communication channel that they aren't even aware exists"
[comments at source].

Health Problems

"People across the US with AMI smart meters on their homes are reporting ringing in the ears, insomnia, strong headaches, nausea, heart palpitations, memory loss, anxiety and pain which began occurring after smart meters were installed. For someone who has electrosensitivity, smart meters contribute to the adverse health effects of this condition"

"[E]vidence is accumulating on the results of exposure to RF at non-thermal levels including increased permeability of the blood-brain barrier in the head, harmful effects on sperm, double strand breaks in DNA which could lead to cancer genesis, stress gene activation indicating an exposure to a toxin, and alterations in brain glucose metabolism"
[Poki Stewart Namkung, M.D. Health Officer at Santa Cruz Health Services Agency, quoted at source].

"Wireless smart meters are capable of interfering with implanted medical devices ... [S]mart meters can interfered with sensitive medical implants such as deep brain stimulators for Parkinson's disease and pacemakers"

"During a Black Hat security conference in August 2011, a security researcher who has diabetes demonstrated on stage how a third party can transmit wireless commands to remotely disable his insulin pump. The pump accepted and followed commands from any wireless source"

Political Control

"Smart meters are for political control. You won't turn in your guns? You refuse to recycle? You won't send your kids to LGBTQ indoctrination class? Nice little home you got there. Be a shame if you had no lights, heat, or refrigeration"
[comment at source].

Smart Phones

"[P]eople are voluntarily paying hundreds of pounds to finance their own tracking device, which they seem to clutch to their faces 24/7.  Even though the facts of mobile phone surveillance and eavesdropping by the state are widely known (if not the full extent) it seems that the addiction is so strong folks are happy to turn a blind eye to the ever more complete web of control being woven around them. The whole concept of the smartphone is a work of pure genius. I don't mean the technological achievement, but the machiavellian genius that not only persuaded whole populations to sign up to having their location recorded at all times but managed to get them to pay their own money for the necessary hardware to make it possible. Absolutely astonishing!"
