Small Plants and Little Caterpillars  (16 January 2016)

"It has been fashionable for some decades now, particularly amongst those who like to think of themselves as experts in child-rearing and/or politically progressive, to argue for child-centred parenting.  They mean by this that the child's 'wishes and feelings' must be at the forefront of parenting..."

Harry Potter: "Whatsoever Things..."  (29 September 2005)

"This article is just a very general comment about the phenomenon known as Harry Potter ... My purpose here is simply to highlight a few of the main themes and practices in the books and films, and ask the question: In reading J.K. Rowling's stories about witches and wizards, are Christians thinking on 'Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, [and] whatsoever things are of good report'?..."

William Tyndale (c1494-1536)  (31 July 2021)

"Experience thrilling adventure as the Christian missionaries on these pages meet witch doctors, disease, drought, hate-filled guerillas, a Bible thief and killer cats!  Best of all, each one of these stories is based on an actual happening from the lives of real people. Follow these missionaries as they respond to God's call. Some of them miraculously escape danger, while others face martyrdom for Christ - but the soldiers of the Cross always win in the end!"  /  "Our children could see God's great faithfulness as we read these precious stories of those who trusted in Him" Jay Trimble.

"A warning for children against sexual predators. Ninety percent of all child sexual predators are close friends to the family or family members themselves. The only way your child will ever know how to avoid being sexually exploited is that he/she has been carefully taught how to know ' the bad guy' and what to do when he says, 'Don't tell'. Yell & Tell books are written to save your child"

Thoughts and Snippets to Bless and to Edify

A Proverb A Day...

"A speaker at a conference I attended some years ago noted that there are 31 proverbs - one for each day of the month - and said she had made it her habit to read a proverb daily.  That really spoke to me and since then I have tried to read the corresponding proverb for the date of the month..."

Our Hope Is In The Lord

"Our church's text for 2020, Psalm 62:5, can perhaps also be applied to the recent general election: arguably the most critical general election we have had for several decades.  In the days following, I waded through many articles all dissecting it in meticulous detail - mostly political analyses, but some Christian ones also. Three themes especially seemed to be uppermost in the Christian commentaries:..."

In The Shadow of Thy Wings

"Our country is at present being severely battered in the storms of Brexit: devastating political, constitutional, and spiritual storms such as we have rarely known in this nation - not, perhaps since the Civil War in the 17th century with which Brexit has some parallels, and many people are wondering what has brought our erstwhile stable nation to this point and what may be the outcome.  Similarly, there are occasions in our personal lives when we find ourselves tossed to and fro in tumultuous situations way beyond our control..."

Are There Lilacs in Beulah?...

"One afternoon in mid-May my spirit was downcast and I had no heart for my work, so I went into the garden to re-pot some geraniums, tomatoes, and lavenders I'd purchased earlier in the month but which I hadn't yet planted due to the rain.  Very soon the pleasure of gardening absorbed me, and then in the warmth of the sun I caught the fragrance from my two lilac bushes..."

His Name is John

"He has wild hair, wears a T-shirt with holes in it, jeans and no shoes. He became a Christian while attending college. Across the street from the campus is a well-dressed, very conservative church. They want to develop a ministry to the students, but are not sure how to go about it..."

Music: Hymns and Songs

Favourite Hymns and Songs

The hymns and songs chosen here are all ones which focus on God the Father and on the Lord Jesus Christ, and on what He has done for us on the cross, what He does for us as we walk with him day by day, and His eventual return in glory to take us home to be with Him. They are hymns and songs that are rich in doctrine and biblical truth, which words and music soar our spirits and restore our souls, and which melodies are simple and beautiful, contemplative and rousing, and are easily learned and remembered so enabling truly joyous corporate worship.

A Good Hymn  (25 July 2023)

"In June, during one of our church's sharing services, a song, written by Max Boyce, titled Ten Thousand Instant Christians, was played, and my ears pricked up at the following words, '...hymns of yesterday, only half remembered; I wondered what He'll say?'  A couple of weeks previously I had been chatting with one of our technical chaps about some of the 'hymns of yesterday' we've been singing in recent services, commenting that there were so many great hymns I remembered from my childhood which I would love to sing again, and he suggested that I email him any good hymns I come across, to be stored in their database for future services.  So, what makes a good hymn?..."

Silent Night  (November 2019)

"In the November issue of our fellowship's newsletter, I wrote a little about my father-in-law's years in the POW camp in Poland. I don't know for sure, but it's very possible that each Christmas the prison bands played carols, and they may have played the well-loved carol, Silent Night.  There are varying legends of the origin of this carol ... But there is also a second and very poignant part to the story..."

In the Sweet By and By  (October 2019)

Our Books

Please Pray for

...all those believers who are persecuted and martyred for their faith.
There are many, many suffering brothers and sisters who desperately need us to pray for them...

"Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them;
and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body"
(Hebrews 13:3)

One of our favourite poems...

My life is but a weaving between my Lord and me;
I cannot choose the colours He worketh steadily,
Oftentimes He weaveth sorrow and I, in foolish pride,
forget that He seeth the upper, and I the under side.

Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly,
shall God unroll the canvas and explain the reasons why
the dark threads are as needful in the weaver's skilful hand
as the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned.

One of our favourite hymns...

In heavenly love abiding, no change my heart shall fear;
and safe is such confiding, for nothing changes here:
The storm may roar without me, my heart may low be laid;
but God is round about me, and can I be dismayed?

Wherever He may guide me, no want shall turn me back;
My Shepherd is beside me, and nothing can I lack:
His wisdom ever waketh, His sight is never dim;
He knows the way He taketh, and I will walk with Him.

Green pastures are before me, which yet I have not seen;
Bright skies will soon be o'er me, where the dark clouds have been:
My hope I cannot measure, my path to life is free;
My Saviour has my treasure, and He will walk with me.

Anna L. Waring

One of our favourite prayers...

Lord, I trust in You.  I believe in You.  I hope in You.  You are my confidence, my assurance.
I lean upon You, for You are my Rock: I depend upon You, for You are my Provider; I delight in You, for You are the joy of my life.
My heart rests in You; my faith responds to You; my soul rejoices in You.

You are the true God who cannot lie and will not fail.
You are the Lord, the Almighty God, the Creator of all things.
You are my Lord, My God, and my Creator.

You are my Keeper, and I am secure; You are my Father, and I am cared for;
You are my Counselor, and I am guided; You are my Shelter and I am safe.

I trust You in life
for the wisdom of Your ways, for the blessings of Your favor, for the sufficiency of Your grace,
for the power of Your Spirit, and for the endurance that comes from Your strength.

Lord, I trust in You
my mind trusts in You, my will trusts in You, my soul trusts in You
from the depths of my being, I trust in You.

I trust You for all things.  I trust You with all things.  I trust You in all things.  I trust You through all things.  I trust You above all things.

Father, I entrust my future into Your hands, for You know the beginning from the end:
I entrust my hopes into Your hands, for You never lie;
I entrust my labors into Your hands, for You are my exceeding great reward;
I entrust my life into Your hands, for You are the only one who does all things well.
