How Did the Telegraph Get the Robinson Rally So Wrong? (17 September 2025)

"The Unite the Kingdom rally was by any standards a wonderful success. Anything from 500,000 to well over a million people - maybe more - from across the land filed through central London, filling the streets with joy, hope, cheerful songs and nation's flags ... peaceful and good humoured ... Yet to read the Daily Telegraph one would think it was all a dream because, according to this newspaper, the event was a violent clash of right-wing hooligans and police, an eruption of racist ideology turning to hate chants, speakers of racist bent stirring up dissent ... As I read this and subsequent articles, it was clear to me that this was not even an attempt at proper reporting but an effort to disparage those attending the rally ... Reading the Telegraph's coverage reminded me of the psy-ops propaganda of the covid lockdown era - of the sewer-dredging articles, smear-mongering opinions and habitual representation. It bore all the hallmarks of being planned in advance and, formally or informally, centrally co-ordinated with no one 'in the field' to report objectively what was really going on. If the Telegraph is committed to fairness, honesty and balance it would give Robinson the opportunity and space to reply,. But we know it won't..."
